Art Biography

Stephen is  a self taught artist. He has no art qualifications and in 1985  he did a few paintings using gouache during one summer holiday. He started painting again after he had retired, first starting with acrylics and that is his preferred medium, he occasionally  dabbles with oils and watercolour has become a favourite. He paints whatever takes his fancy and looks for inspiration in the world around him, especially the beauty of the Shropshire Hills and the Ironbridge Gorge.  He likes to be challenged and some paintings are quite realistic , some could be classed as expressionistic and others certainly abstract.

He hopes to  bring a sense of joy to the audience! As John Keates said, " A thing of beauty is a joy forever". Stephen paintings are certainly that.

Stephen was fortunate to run his  own art gallery at Maws Craft Centre ( TF8 7LS) near Ironbridge from June 2022 till early September 2026 but had to close because of health reasons. He now paints but not so often from his small studio at home.
